In the high Cordillera mountains, Beatriz Homonlay's journey began. She left her homeland and moved to Mindanao, searching for a better future. Little did she know, she was destined for greatness.
The First Mindanao Vegetable Derby
Fast forward to December 12th, and Beatriz was crowned the 2020 Cabbage Queen at the very first Mindanao Vegetable Derby. The event was created by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to help communities, fight poverty, and boost the region's economy.
An Outstanding Accomplishment
Beatriz, from Sumilao, Bukidnon, stood out among many competitors, including mostly men, by growing the best-quality cabbage during the derby that started in July.
The Power of Teamwork
Beatriz partnered with East-West Seeds, using their high-quality seeds and farming techniques, guided by their experts. This partnership gave her the tools she needed for success.
Recognition and Rewards
Beatriz's hard work and skills earned her the Cabbage Queen title. She also received a trophy, certificate, and a 15 cu.ft. refrigerator as a gift from Sanden Cold Chain Systems Phils. President Usamo Ikeda.
A Community of Farmers
Beatriz isn't alone. Many Igorot farmers like her settled in Bukidnon's highlands and engaged in farming. Cordilleran families, like the Homonlays, are successful farmers all over Mindanao.
Quiet and Hardworking
Igorot families are known for being quiet and industrious. Their stories, like Beatriz's, inspire others. Even though the Cordilleras are far away, their spirit shines in the fields of Mindanao.
In Summary
Beatriz Homonlay's journey from the Cordilleras to the Cabbage Queen is a story of resilience and potential. Success doesn't have borders. With determination and the right partnerships, we can all reach for our dreams, just like Beatriz did. Her story is about dreams coming true and a brighter future ahead.
