Honoring a Local Hero

First Kalinga Olympian Hergie Bacyadan is being celebrated with a hero's welcome by the provincial government today, September 9, Monday. This special recognition comes after Bacyadan made the entire province proud with her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Known for her dedication and pride in representing both the Philippines and the LGBTQ community, Bacyadan received a heartfelt welcome from her tribe, Taloctoc, Tanudan, Kalinga.

Despite not succeeding in her initial Olympic attempt, Bacyadan is poised to leave a lasting impression at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Her journey from training with worn-out gear to becoming a symbol of perseverance and inspiration highlights her commitment to her sport and her community.

Recognition and Awards

In acknowledgment of her remarkable achievements, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. awarded Bacyadan PHP 1 million. Additionally, she received PHP 150,000 worth of items from a sports apparel company. Reflecting on her journey, Bacyadan recalled training with torn shoes and expressed gratitude for the positive changes in her life.

Hero's Welcome and Motorcade

Today, the provincial government of Kalinga is honoring Bacyadan with a hero's parade, celebrating her as the first native of Kalinga to join the Philippine Olympic team. The motorcade began this morning in Bulanao, Tabuk City, where Bacyadan was warmly greeted by the people of Kalinga. The motorcade route included several key landmarks in Tabuk City, such as the Rotunda, St. William's Academy, White Carabao Marker, St. Tonis College Inc., Annex-Bulanao Central School, Rotary Marker, Block 3 Police Station, and Southern Tabuk Integrated School, concluding at the Kalinga Sports Center.

Award Ceremony

The celebration will continue with a short program and an awarding ceremony at the Kalinga Sports Center. During the ceremony, Bacyadan will receive a Special Recognition and a PHP 500,000 cash incentive from the Office of the Provincial Governor. This award, approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance, acknowledges her dedication, hard work, and the honor she has brought to Kalinga.
