Ifugao State University (IFSU) is making waves globally. At the recent International Student Seminar and Awarding Day hosted by Universitas Brawijaya in Indonesia on November 15, 2023, IFSU showcased its dedication to global education. The spotlight, however, was on one IFSU student who bagged a significant gold medal in the competition.
International Students' Day Celebration
IFSU actively participated in the International Student Seminar and Awarding Day, a global celebration of International Students' Day. The virtual event, livestreamed worldwide, featured a compelling Keynote Message titled "Humanity in Crisis: Empathy, Compassion, and Action," delivered by Dr. Imam Muhammad Shamsi Ali, a distinguished US Muslim and Interfaith Leader, and a UN speaker.
The engaging event also included a student interaction talk show themed "Global Citizenship and Cultural Competence: Thriving in a Diverse World." This segment provided a platform for students to discuss and explore the significance of global citizenship in an increasingly diverse world.
Gold Medal Triumph at AVISOC 2023
IFSU achieved a significant milestone with Christine Faith D. Gano, a second-year student in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology Program at the Lamut Campus, securing a gold medal in the ASEAN Virtual Student Opinion Competition 2023 (AVISOC 2023). Gano's outstanding performance marked a triumphant moment for the university.
Analyzing the Implications of AI in Journalism
Gano's winning piece, titled "AI or People," critically examined the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism. Specifically addressing concerns raised by the introduction of AI sportscasters, "Maia and Marco," by GMA Integrated News, Gano eloquently highlighted potential issues such as job displacement, diminished critical thinking, emotional intelligence, security risks, and the peril of misinformation.
Global Recognition for Project Presentation
IFSU students continued to make waves in the international arena, securing 3rd Place in the Project Presentation category at the Online Global Culture Exchange 2023. Hosted by Universitas Islam Sultan Agung of Indonesia, this exchange program brought together 173 participants from 13 different countries, representing 41 universities.
Diverse Team Collaboration
The winning team, comprising students from various colleges and campuses, showcased the university's commitment to fostering collaboration and embracing cultural diversity. Participants included Criszaril N. Uyan, Maricar H. Bengwic, Rickyziah Duladul Tid-ong from the College of Arts and Sciences, Cyrus Ray P. Manipon from the College of Education, and Lovelane B. Palatic from the DAT-BAT Program of the Hapao Campus.
A Vision for Global Presence
Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, acknowledging these outstanding accomplishments, emphasized that they align with the university's commitment to fostering global citizenship among its students. Dr. Jo Ann D. Doculan, the mentor of Christine Faith D. Gano, expressed confidence in IFSU's academic excellence, stating, "We are eager to bring our students into the global academic arena."
Congratulations to the Achievers!
IFSU's success on the international stage not only brings pride to the university but also contributes to the broader conversation on the role of students in addressing global challenges and embracing cultural diversity. The achievements underscore IFSU's dedication to academic excellence and its vision for a global presence.
As the university continues to foster a culture of excellence and global engagement, these triumphs serve as beacons of inspiration for current and future students. Congratulations to Christine Faith D. Gano and the entire team for their remarkable achievements at the International Student Seminar, AVISOC 2023, and the Online Global Culture Exchange 2023.
