A Story Rooted in Family and Culture

The viral photo is more than just a heartwarming moment; it is a representation of the strong family ties that are central to Igorot culture. For many in the Cordillera region, family is the cornerstone of personal and communal life. Egsan's gesture of placing her graduation hat on her Lolo's head is a profound way of honoring him, acknowledging the sacrifices he made to help her reach this milestone.

Celebrating Other Cordilleran Achievers at PMA 2024

While Egsan's viral moment captured the nation's attention, she is not the only Cordilleran to bring honor to the region in PMA's Bagong Sinag Class of 2024. Several other graduates from the Cordillera Administrative Region have also distinguished themselves through their academic and athletic achievements.

Cadet 1st Class Ronald It-itan, a Kankanaey from Sabangan, Mountain Province, finished among the top 20 of his class, graduating cum laude. It-itan, like Egsan, is a graduate of the Cordillera Regional Science High School (CRSHS), known for nurturing some of the brightest minds in the region. His accomplishments are a testament to the strong educational foundation provided by CRSHS and his dedication to excellence.

Another Cordilleran standout is Cadet 1st Class Jake Matiw from Bontoc, Mountain Province, who was awarded the prestigious Athletic Saber for male cadets. Matiw's journey to PMA began with academic success as a dean's lister at the University of Baguio, showcasing his exceptional abilities in both academics and athletics.

Cadet 1st Class Zita Dewi Nirvana L. Messakaraeng from Tabuk City, Kalinga, also made her mark by earning the Humanities Plaque, an award given for outstanding performance in social sciences and humanities. Messakaraeng, a graduate with high honors from Saint Mary's University in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, exemplifies the intellectual and cultural richness of the Cordillera region.

The accomplishments of fellow Cordillerans like It-itan, Matiw, and Messakaraeng further highlight the region's dedication to excellence.
