WORLD MUAY THAI CHAMP - Igorot fighter Jhaymie Gayman wins the I-1 Asian Championship, defeating Hong Kong's Pun Cheuk Huin. Celebrated with wife Sharma and son Jhay Sharezer.

Cordilleran fighter Jhaymie Gayman has achieved a significant milestone by winning the I-1 Asian Championship title at the I-1 World Muay Thai Championship. This prestigious event took place at the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Center in Hong Kong on June 25.

Dominating the 57-Kilogram Division

Gayman, who hails from Kapangan, Benguet, and Besao, Mountain Province, competed in the 57-kilogram weight class and delivered an impressive performance. He faced off against Hong Kong's Muay Thai champion, Pun Cheuk Huin, and emerged victorious in the "I-1 Grand Extreme 24" event. Gayman secured the championship belt in the second round, showcasing his exceptional skills and strategic prowess.

A Noteworthy Achievement for Filipino Athletes

This victory marks Gayman's debut in the I-1 World Muay Thai Championship, and his success has been met with great enthusiasm. Reflecting on his achievement, Gayman shared, "This is my first fight in this event and we did it." His wife and coach, Sharma Devaiah Gayman, highlighted the dedication required for this win. She mentioned, "He trained hard for this one. There are a lot of obstacles along the way, but he wanted to show the Filipino spirit and he did it." The couple was accompanied by their son, Jhay Sharezer, who proudly wore traditional woven tunics.

A Versatile Combat Sports Career

Jhaymie Gayman is known for his diverse experience across various combat sports. In addition to his success in Muay Thai, Gayman has competed in professional mixed martial arts and kickboxing. He is affiliated with the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas, which oversees kickboxing in the Philippines. His athletic career includes numerous accolades in local competitions, including wrestling, wushu, and Muay Thai.

In December 2022, Gayman also secured a significant victory in the professional K1 of the World Council Combat Sports Philippines, winning by unanimous decision against Romeo Sinakay.
