Julie's Bakeshop Addresses Misleading Video Claiming Rat Infestation

Julie's Bakeshop in Baguio City has recently addressed a circulating video on social media that falsely alleges the presence of a rat on one of their shelves. The video, which surfaced on various platforms, has sparked concerns among customers, prompting the bakeshop to issue a clear and direct response.

The Alleged Incident

On April 2, 2024, Julie's Bakeshop took to Facebook to respond to the viral video. The clip shows a large rat scurrying across what appears to be a display of baked goods, accompanied by text that reads: "Julie's Bakeshop may daga" (Julie's Bakeshop has a rat).

However, the bakeshop quickly dismissed these claims, stating that the store featured in the video does not resemble any of their branches. They pointed out that the video's lack of visible signage, along with the differences in store interiors and bread displays, are clear indicators that the establishment shown is not one of theirs.

In a statement released on August 28, Julie's Bakeshop emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety:

"Based on the video, no signage is visible, and the interiors and bread display clearly indicate that it is NOT a Julie's store."

Watch the Original Video

Below is the original video published by Iloilo Metropolitan Times, featuring footage by Ju Bert via RMN-Iloilo. The video, filmed in Jaro, Iloilo, was later reused and reuploaded by a page called PH Trending Vlogs TV, falsely claiming it was from a Julie's Bakeshop store. Julie's Bakeshop confirms they do not have a branch in Jaro, Iloilo, and the store shown is not one of their branches in Baguio City.

Commitment to Safety and Quality

Julie's Bakeshop assured their customers that they enforce strict guidelines in the preparation of their products and continuously enhance their sanitation protocols. Regular pest control measures and thorough cleaning are conducted to prevent any such incidents from occurring in their stores.

"We want to assure the public that we enforce strict guidelines in bread preparation and continuously enhance our sanitation and safety protocols. We conduct regular pest control and thorough cleaning of our stores to prevent such incidents."

The bakeshop also highlighted that their bread displays are designed with clear signage to help customers easily identify the products, a feature noticeably absent in the misleading video.

Julie's Bakeshop is not taking this incident lightly. Their legal team is actively working to address the misrepresentation and ensure that those responsible for spreading the false information are held accountable.

"Our legal team is already taking steps to address this misrepresentation and ensure that those responsible for spreading such false information face appropriate consequences."

This proactive approach underscores the bakeshop's dedication to protecting its reputation and maintaining the trust of its customers.

Upholding Food Safety Standards

The incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the Republic Act 10611, also known as the Food Safety Act of 2013. This law mandates that food business operators ensure their products meet safety requirements throughout the supply chain. If an unsafe product reaches consumers, operators are required to inform the public accurately and, if necessary, recall the product from the market.

Julie's Bakeshop's swift response to the video aligns with these standards, reinforcing their commitment to consumer safety.

A Lesson in Online Misinformation

In today's digital age, misinformation can spread rapidly, impacting businesses and consumer trust. Julie's Bakeshop's response to the viral video not only clarifies the situation but also highlights the importance of verifying information before it is shared online.

For businesses, maintaining open communication with customers and being transparent about safety practices is crucial in managing such incidents effectively.

By addressing the issue head-on, Julie's Bakeshop has demonstrated its dedication to upholding its reputation for quality and safety, reassuring customers that they can continue to trust the brand for their baked goods.
