Mountain Province State Polytechnic College is now Mountain Province State University, expanding academic opportunities in the region.

The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) has officially transitioned into a state university, marking a significant milestone for higher education in the region. On Tuesday, August 27, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) approved the conversion of MPSPC into what is now known as the Mountain Province State University (MPSU).

CHED's Approval and Legislative Foundation

The transition was facilitated by Republic Act No. 12016, which was signed into law by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on August 1. This legislation laid the groundwork for MPSPC's conversion into a university, with CHED confirming the institution's compliance with the rigorous standards required by law.

A series of evaluations were conducted by CHED's Composite Team to assess various aspects of the institution. These included enrollment numbers, academic programs, faculty qualifications, research initiatives, learning resources, and outreach programs. After a thorough review, CHED determined that MPSPC had successfully met all the criteria necessary for its elevation to university status.

Expansion and Opportunities for Students

MPSPC currently operates campuses in several municipalities, including Bontoc, Tadian, Bauko, Paracelis, and Barlig. The institution offers 23 undergraduate programs and six graduate programs, serving an average of 5,000 students each semester.

With its new designation as a university, MPSU is poised to expand its educational offerings and increase its enrollment capacity. The transition to a university will enable MPSU to provide a broader range of programs and opportunities, better aligning with the needs of its students and the regional workforce.

Edgar Cue, President of MPSPC, shares his thoughts on the college's transformation into Mountain Province State University.

Acknowledgment of Efforts

MPSPC President Edgar Cue expressed his gratitude to CHED for their approval and recognized the contributions of those who played a role in this achievement.

"Your commitment and contributions have been instrumental in achieving this milestone," Cue stated, acknowledging the efforts of past and present leaders of the province, the MPSPC Board of Trustees, former MPSPC presidents, and college officials.

CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera also commended the institution, highlighting its dedication to delivering quality education to the people of Mountain Province.

Moving Forward as a University

The conversion of MPSPC into Mountain Province State University represents a significant step forward for the region's educational landscape. With the new university status, MPSU is expected to offer more programs, accommodate more students, and provide enhanced educational opportunities that will contribute to the development of Mountain Province and beyond.

The journey from a polytechnic college to a state university reflects the institution's continuous commitment to growth and excellence in education. As MPSU embarks on this new chapter, it will play a crucial role in shaping the future of higher education in the region, ensuring that students have access to quality education that meets their needs and prepares them for the workforce.
