Ifugao councilor, dead; 5 injured in vehicle crash

Tinoc, Ifugao councilor was killed while 5 others were injured when their vehicle fell into a ravine in Kabayan, Benguet.

The victims injured in a vehicle that fell into a ravine in Kabayan, Benguet are still in the hospital.

The councilor of Tinoc, Ifugao was first killed in the accident while five of his companions were injured.

The deceased was identified as Tinoc Municipal Councilor Mercury Caridad Binwihan, 54, married and a resident of Impogong, Tinoc, Ifugao.

The injured were named Norwin Polon Carpio, 34, of Poblacion, Kapangan, Benguet; Jonathan Wakat Binwihan, 20, from Impogong, Tinoc, Ifugo; Elsa Tabingan Paeng, 52, from Nabalicong, Buguias, Benguet; Analiza Paeng Carpio, 32, resident of Natubleng, Buguias, Benguet; and Leizel Ann Pael Dulnuan, 25, engineer, resident of Asin, Tuba, Benguet.

According to the police report, the pick-up with license plate CML 599 was driven from La Trinidad, Benguet by the councilor and was carrying five passengers.

They were going to Mangkew, Pacso, Kabayan, Benguet to attend the funeral of one of their relatives.

However, while on the downhill road, the driver did not estimate the curve of the road which resulted in the pick-up falling into a ravine with a depth of approximately 50 meters.

The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital but Councilor Binwihan was declared dead on arrival.

The pick-up was wrecked where it was found blocked by a tree at the bottom of the ravine.
