KABAYAN, BENGUET - Benguet province is proud of a town that remains coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) free since the community quarantine began in March.
It was found out that out of the 13 towns of Benguet, only the town of Kabayan has not registered a case of such disease in five months.
According to Mayor Faustino Aquisan, this is the result of the authorities' extended and strict implementation of quarantine protocols in conjunction with the coordination of residents in the said town.
He said, since February, they have not allowed tourists to the whole town, especially the famous Mt. Pulag National Park.
It just shows how disciplined the people in Kabayan are. In May, an Igorot seafarer donated more than 100,000 for his countrymen in Kabayan, Benguet.
It can be recalled that based on data from the Benguet Provincial Health Office, 65 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the entire province of Benguet are locally stranded inividuals (LSIs), police, returning residents and the result of contract tracing by the authorities.
So far, COVID-19 has hit a total of 190 cases throughout the province while 31 are active cases and 158 are recoveries. Only one person died due to COVID-19.
