In compliance with the Brigada Pagbasa Program of the Department of Education (DepEd), teachers at Lawiguen Elementary School in Itogon, Benguet personally taught reading to some pupils under a huge tree on Oct. 18.
Teacher Darna B. Fianza said that she and her fellow teachers conducted their Brigada Pagbasa activities under the mango for the learners to take advantage of the fresh air and for easy observance of physical distancing.
"We conduct Brigada Pagbasa house to house every Tuesdays then we'll follow through via walkie-talkie until Thursdays," she explained.
She added that they combine Grades 4 and 3 pupils since they are small group and easy to manage.
Fianza's team includes Teachers Porita Atumpag and Rolyn Eque with their supportive School Head Josie S. Cayat.
Lawiguen campus is multigrade school that each teacher handles two grade levels.
Brigada Pagbasa is an extension of DepEd's Brigada Eskwela campaign that promotes community participation in time for school opening. It will bring together experts, change makers, policy-makers, and other stakeholders across all sectors from international and local agencies, as well as public and private organizations to spread reading literacy among Filipino children.
