PCSUPT Dennis Lingat Basngi from Sabangan, Mountain Province promoted to PNP General

PCSUPT Dennis Lingat Basngi, a son of a former miner from Sabangan, Mountain Province and a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1988, was promoted to Police Chief Superintendent with Philippine National Police Director General Ronald Dela Rosa presiding his promotion on June 29, 2017 at the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Basngi is best known to the Philippine National Police under his alias "Bangis" because of his reputation for volunteering in conflict-stricken parts of Mindanao, where police leadership is needed.

His credentials for police operations and intelligence enabled him to be elected by the PNP.

The PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) is now headed by Basngi as the current deputy director along with fellow Igorot general Benjamin M. Lusad from Bontoc, Mountain Province.

PCSUPT Dennis Lingat Basngi: Personal life, Education, and Awards

Young Basngi completed his primary education at Philex Elementary School in 1975 and then continued his secondary education at San Alfonso High School in Sabangan, Mountain Province where he graduated in 1979.

He enrolled as an engineering student at Saint Louis University in Baguio City while working as a laborer until he decided to enter the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1988.

Basngi is a recipient of numerous medals and commendations in the military and police service.

You may not have heard of Basngi's accomplishments as a bemedalled policeman, as he was assigned outside the region. He held various positions in various police units and orders in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Before he was posted to the PNP-SAF, he was appointed director of the provinces of Misamis Occidental and Ilocos Sur; city director of Iloilo and Zamboanga City during the breakout of the Zamboanga siege in September 2013.

He was awarded the Medal of Kadakilaan for successfully leading the Zamboanga police force until the city was liberated from armed groups and during the rehabilitation period.

A son of the late Faustino Hamada Basngi and Alfonsa Agaled Lingat, the Igorot general is married to Bernadette Tabao, with whom he had a 12-year-old son Denber Kenzo.

The 53-year-old Basngi will retire in December 2018 reaching the mandatory retirement age of 55.
