2LT Brent "Fengag" Kotoken Alawas, proud Igorot from Mountain Province, graduated as Top 3 of the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) Class 56 "IKARIGATAK" 2022, on October 20, 2022, at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command, Camp O'Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.
2LT Alawas, a native of Bontoc, Mountain Province, was 3rd among the 229-strong graduating class. He is the son of Prime Bishop Brent Harry W. Alawas of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines.
The OCC is a pre-entry training conducted on Cadets and Officer Candidates to be assigned to the regular force in the Philippine Army. It aims to provide a progressive, efficient, and balanced training course that will equip Cadets and Officer Candidates with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attributes prior to their commission.
The course has three main programs namely: Basic Military Training; Officer Training; and Army Warfighting Functions, which will run an average of 50 weeks of training. Upon completion of the course, graduates will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Philippine Army.
Meanwhile, fellow Cordilleran from Baguio City, 2nd Lieutenant Jerald Garcia, finished Top 1 in the class.
