In recognition of her efforts, the National Library of the Philippines, Public Library Division, (NLP-PLD) has awarded second prize to Baguio City Public Library officer-in-charge Easter Wahayna-Pablo in this year's prestigious "Search for Gawad Parangal sa Natatanging Propesyonal na Tagapangasiwa sa Pampublikong Aklatan".
Mayor Benjamin Magalong was informed recently of Pablo's feat in a letter by NLP-PLD Chief Blesila Velasco.
"It is an honor to work with professionals of high caliber whose hard work and dedication produce superb results," the letter stated.
During the management committee meeting, July 6, at Baguio Convention Center, the Mayor congratulated Pablo for her achievement that he said not only brings honor to herself and her family but to the entire city of Baguio.
The city council is also expected to pass a resolution commending the OIC city librarian in its next regular session.
Blesila invited the Mayor and Pablo to the virtual awarding ceremonies on August 25 during the 1st ASEAN Virtual Regional Conference of Public Librarians where the latter will be receiving a Plaque of Recognition and Medal.
It is the first time for a public librarian in the city and Cordillera region to ever receive the prestigious award.
A graduate of bachelor of science in education major in library science from SLU, Pablo also has a Masters degree in library and information technology, cum laude, from the same institution and a Masters in Public Administration from Benguet State University.
She garnered 4th place in the 1999 board examination for professional librarians and is a registered librarian and licensed professional teacher.
Pablo has been with the city government for more than 20 years and is the Baguio City Public Library OIC since September last year.
Pre-Covid-19 pandemic programs and services she initiated include school-based reading programs, barangay visitations for the establishment of a reading center, in-house library orientations, research for the library's modernization, and more.
Those she spearheaded during the pandemic are PLVIRA (Public Library Virtual Reference Assistance); online library and information services month activities, online contests and trivia, book drive for reading centers in far flung areas in collaboration with Project 360, book lover's club and provide support to the city's pandemic efforts.

Ms EASTER W. PABLO is a 4th Placer in Library Science Board Exam with 2 masters degree in Public Administration (MPA) and Master in Library and Information Technology (MALIT) and graduated Cum Laude. She also teaches as a board examination review instructress for librarians.
The National Library of the Philippines, in partnership with The Asia Foundation, would like to congratulate, with great pride, the awardees of 2021 Search for Gawad Parangal sa Natatanging Propesyunal na Tagapangasiwa at Tagapaglingkod sa Pampublikong Aklatan.
Both 1st placers in the Professional Librarian and Non-Librarian Categories will receive a Trophy, Medal, and Cash Prize. The 2nd and 3rd, placer, will receive a Plaque of Recognition and Medal.
Virtual awarding of the winners will be on August 25, 2021, at 2:00 PM, during the Closing Ceremonies of the 1st ASEAN Virtual Regional Conference of Public Librarians via Zoom.
