Xeena Amirey Apil of Tabuk City, Kalinga, graduated from Cagayan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management on July 5, 2022. She received a surprise on her graduation day that went viral on social media: a bouquet of 1,000-peso bills worth P75,000.
Xeena said she was surprised and grateful for the gift, which came from her mother and two elder sisters. "I didn't expect it at all," she said. "I was just so happy and proud of myself for graduating."
Xeena had a general weighted average of 92%, but she missed an activity in one of her subjects, which prevented her from being given the Latin honor of Cum Laude.
"I had Dysrhythmia, which caused my pulse rate to drop to 30-35," Xeena explained. "I had to go to the hospital for a check-up, and I missed the activity."
Xeena also said that she got a low score on one of her oral recitations in the same subject.
"I tried to make up for it, but I wasn't able to meet my teacher every time I went to the university," she said.
Despite these challenges, Xeena graduated with two gold sports awards.
"I'm so proud of myself for what I've accomplished," she said. "I want to thank my family and friends for their support."
