Carl Jammes "Wonder Boy" Martin, the undefeated Igorot boxer from Ifugao province, stops Ronnie "Jong Jong" Baldonado in the 11th round of their bout to remain as the Philippine Super Bantamweight Champion and capture the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia Super Bantamweight belt.
Although the Ifugao pride got knockdown in the second round by fellow Filipino boxer Baldonado, the Igorot fighter showed strong stamina and resilience to make a comeback during their match-up fight at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque on March 12, 2022.
Martin in the later rounds unloaded powerful combos and body shots to the already gassed-out Baldonado.
The referee stopped the fight to prevent further damage to Baldonado at 2:02 left in the 11th round.
Martin maintains his undefeated record of 19 wins with 16 coming by way of TKO.
Carl Jammes Martin joins Probellum
The fighting pride of Cordillera and the Philippines, Martin recently signed with the international promotion Probellum, joining "The Filipino Flash" Donaire and Donnie Nietes.
Probellum is a company that promotes boxing globally under its current president Richard Schaefer. For Martin, this is the beginning of his transition to the international boxing scene following the path of Filipino boxing legends Donaire and Pacquiao.
"For the last two or three years, my team and I have been carefully studying all possible options and situations that will lay the groundwork for my international boxing success," said Carl Jammes Martin.
"Our patience has paid off and joining Probellum has been worth the wait. While the company itself is only a few months old, the team behind it is second to none from a boxing and business point of view.
"I have never been so excited to showcase to the world our local culture and my skills as a boxer, and represent my country in the same way that Senator Manny Pacquiao did, the Philippines' greatest pride.
"My career will not go wrong with Mr. Richard Schaefer calling the shots and with all of his great advice. To my Wonderboy Team, this is the moment. Let's do this!" he added.
